Base64 Encoder & Decoder

Convert text and images to Base64 and back as you type. Handles Urdu, emoji and URL-safe Base64, and previews decoded images instantly.

Base64 output

Base64 appears here as you type
  • Unicode-safe text

Text is encoded as UTF-8, so Urdu, Arabic, emoji and accented letters survive the round trip intact.

  • Images ↔ data URLs

Turn an image into a data URL for HTML, CSS or JSON, or paste Base64 to preview and download the image.

  • URL-safe Base64

Encode with - and _ for tokens and URLs. Decoding accepts both styles, with or without = padding.

Base64 turns any data — text, images, files — into plain letters and numbers so it can travel safely through systems built for text: JSON APIs, email, HTML attributes and environment variables. It isn't encryption: anyone can decode it, so never use Base64 to hide passwords or API keys.

How to use it

  1. Choose Encode or Decode, then Text or Image.
  2. Type or paste your input — the result updates as you type. For images, pick a file from your phone or computer.
  3. Copy the result or download it as a file.

Good to know

  • URL-safe Base64 swaps + and / for - and _ and drops the =padding. It's used in JWTs and in links.
  • Decoding is forgiving: line breaks, missing padding and full data:…;base64, URLs are all accepted.
  • Size: Base64 output is about 33% larger than the original, so only inline small images such as icons and logos.
  • Binary data:if decoded bytes aren't readable text (a PDF or ZIP, for example), you can download them as a file instead.

Common uses

  • Embedding small images directly in HTML, CSS or email templates
  • Reading Base64 fields in API responses and webhook payloads
  • Building HTTP Basic Auth headers (username:password → Base64)
  • Checking what's inside the header and payload of a JWT
