Hash Generator

Get the MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 of any text or file, switch to HMAC with a secret key, and compare two checksums to make sure a download wasn't changed.

Input

Hashed exactly as typed — spaces and line breaks count — as UTF-8 bytes.

Hash results

Type some text to see its MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512

Compare two hashes

Paste an expected checksum and the one you got. Case and spaces are ignored.

  • Five algorithms at once

MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 update as you type — or for any file you pick.

  • HMAC mode

Add a secret key to get keyed hashes, handy for testing webhook and API signatures.

  • Checksum compare

Paste two hashes to check they match, ignoring case and stray spaces.

Free online hash generator

A cryptographic hash turns any input — a word, a document, a 50 MB installer — into a short, fixed-length fingerprint. The same input always gives the same hash, and changing even one character gives a completely different one. That makes hashes perfect for checking that a file arrived intact.

Supported algorithms

  • MD5 (128-bit):still common for checksums, but broken for security — don't use it to protect anything.
  • SHA-1 (160-bit): deprecated for security since practical collisions were shown in 2017.
  • SHA-256 (256-bit): the everyday standard for checksums, Git, TLS certificates and more.
  • SHA-384 and SHA-512: longer members of the SHA-2 family.
  • HMAC: a hash mixed with a secret key, used to sign webhooks and API requests.

How to verify a download

  1. Switch to File and pick the file you downloaded.
  2. Copy the SHA-256 (or whichever algorithm the publisher lists).
  3. Paste it and the published checksum into Compare two hashes.

Good to know

  • Text is hashed as UTF-8, so Urdu, emoji and other scripts give the same result as most other tools.
  • Don't store passwords as plain MD5 or SHA hashes — use a slow, salted algorithm such as Argon2 or bcrypt instead.
  • Files up to 100 MB are hashed entirely on your device; nothing is uploaded.
